The first product from Derusty is open to a small group of dancers and teachers. It exists because the most useful thing a teacher ever told me was gone by the time I got home.
Every dancer knows what it is like to practice alone after class and wish the teacher was still there. You are working toward a competition, or just trying to get better, and the one thing they told you an hour ago is already half gone.
I wanted a way to hold on to it. The exact second in the clip, with the note that belonged to it, still attached.
BuffUp is that. It is the first product from Derusty, and it is live now with a small group of dancers and teachers.
Why we built it
Nothing about dance is hard to find any more. Every move is on YouTube, and so is every breakdown of it. What you cannot find is someone who has taught your style for years watching you specifically, and naming the one thing that is actually holding you back.
That has always meant being in the room with them. The right teacher, close enough, with time to spare. Most dancers get it a few times a year if they are lucky, and then it evaporates.
What it does today
You upload a clip. A practice run, a prelim, whatever you are working on. You pick a teacher yourself or let the app match you with one.
They watch it and mark the exact seconds where something works or does not. Written notes where that is quicker, voice notes where it is not, and a score against a rubric in dance vocabulary. Timing, extension, musicality, not a one-size-fits-all rating that would suit any video.
You keep all of it. You can rewatch yourself with their marks still on you for as long as you want, or delete the whole thing.
Who it is for right now
Dancers working toward something specific. A competition, a routine, a thing you have been stuck on long enough to be annoyed about it.
Teachers who already give this feedback, then watch a student practice it wrong by Thursday.
